Ethel Spitzke, 101, of Bridgman, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, officiated by Pastor J. O. Hosler of the Napier Parkview Baptist Church, Benton Harbor. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may call at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the church. Those wishing to sign Ethel's Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.

Ethel was born August 27, 1910 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Emil C. and Tillie (Schmanski) Virkus. Ethel worked for the Berrien County Agriculture Department.

Ethel is survived by her son, Grant D. Spitzke of Vail, Arizona, grandchildren, Mark Spitzke of Beavercreek, Ohio and Amy Spaid of Linden, TN, and great-grandchildren, Justin Spaid, Braeden and Braxton Spitzke.

Ethel is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Sherry Spitzke, two sisters, Irene Virkus and Marian Sauer, and two brothers, Walter and Delbert Virkus.
