John W. Nimtz, 90, of Caretel Inns, formerly of Stevensville, passed away at Lakeland Regional Medical Center after a short illness on Friday, April 20, 2012.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 24 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 404 E. Glenlord Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor Noah Headrick officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 AM prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or to Michigan Lutheran High School. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com

John was born on April 6, 1922, in Eau Claire to Arthur and Minnie (Schroeder) Nimtz.
He retired after 44 years from New Products Corporation. He married Leona Sorget on Sept. 1, 1956 in Sodus, MI. She preceded him in death in 1992. He married Dolores Brado on July 9, 1994 in St. Joseph, MI. John was a long time member and very active in his church, serving on numerous boards and committees. He was a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed building bird houses. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

He is survived by his wife Dolores; two sons Brian (Kelly) Nimtz of St. Joseph and Thomas Nimtz of Sister Lakes; 2 grandchildren Carter and Kelsey Nimtz; 3 step-children Gary Patzer, Dennis (Becky) Patzer, and Brian (Sue) Patzer; 7 step-grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; sister Esther Yochim of Eau Claire; two sisters-in-law Rosie Nimtz of Eau Claire and Joyce Sorget of Green Valley, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife of 36 years, Leona, John was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Nimtz and William Nimtz.
